Georgia and Turkey made their UEFA European Championship debuts on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, in a match that ended in a 3-1 victory for Turkey. The game was played at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan and was attended by a crowd of 67,801.

Turkey took the lead in the 16th minute when Mert Muldur scored a spectacular goal from outside the box. Arda Guler doubled Turkey's lead in the 35th minute with another stunning strike. Georgia pulled one back in the 55th minute through Giorgi Chakvetadze, but Turkey restored their two-goal lead just four minutes later when Cengiz Ünder scored from close range.

The win gives Turkey their first three points of the tournament and puts them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages. Georgia, meanwhile, will need to bounce back quickly in their next match against Switzerland if they want to keep their hopes of reaching the last 16 alive.

In the other Group A match, Italy defeated Switzerland 3-0. The Italians took the lead in the 15th minute through Nicolo Barella and doubled their advantage in the 35th minute through Ciro Immobile. Lorenzo Insigne added a third goal for Italy in the 55th minute.

The results leave Italy top of Group A with six points, followed by Turkey with three points. Switzerland and Georgia are both on zero points.
