Looking At C&I’s Back Pages with Miranda Lambert
Country star Miranda Lambert sang the praises of the Grand Ole Opry when she graced the venue’s stage in Nashville, Tennessee on the night of June 24, 2022.
Lambert shared that she had read about the Opry in the magazine Country Music and that “back then, I just dreamed about it. I didn’t think it was really a place I’d ever get to play.”
Her Opry debut was in 2005 and now has become an Opry member. Her admiration for the venue’s history and the people who have performed on its stage is evident when she said that she would just sit out in the audience when there’s no show and look at the pictures on the walls of all the people who have played here.
Lambert also revealed that it was at the Opry where she first met Loretta Lynn, who later became a good friend.
She said, “ I was on the side of the stage, and I saw her coming down the stairs in her big pink dress. I said, ‘Oh my God, that’s Loretta Lynn, and I just stood there,’ and she walked by, and I said, ‘Ms. Lynn, I’m Miranda Lambert.’ And she said, ‘Oh, you’re that little Pistol Annies girl,’ and she gave me a big hug, and we just talked for a minute, and I didn’t want to let go of her.”
According to Lambert, Lynn told her to make sure to get into the Opry because it’s like a family. She said that Lynn was one of the Opry members who welcomed her with open arms making her feel right at home even as a newcomer.
She assured Lynn that she will become a member of the Opry, and she made sure to fulfill that promise to her esteemed friend and mentor.
