PCOS Women Face Higher Risk of Eating Disorders
Study Highlights Need for Awareness and Early Intervention
Clinicians Should Be Proactive in Screening
A recent study published in the journal
Eating Disorders found that women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have higher odds of developing eating disorders compared to those without the condition. The study analyzed data from over 280,000 women and found that PCOS women were more likely to experience any type of eating disorder, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. The study's findings highlight the importance of screening for eating disorders in women with PCOS. Clinicians should be aware of the increased risk and proactively screen for symptoms during routine appointments. Early identification and intervention can help prevent the development of more severe eating disorders and improve overall health outcomes.
